About Backplates

All images in the galleries of this shop are so-called backplates that were specially produced for the Screenshotz process. All backplates in this shop are NOT designed as end products of the design work, but rather just background images into which the essential motif has to be inserted using the Screenshotz method. However, all backplates can also be used to create conventional image montages or as green screen backgrounds. All Screenshots backplates are only available for paid download in the standard resolution 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels).

By purchasing and downloading these backplates, the buyer acquires a right of use. He may use the purchased motifs as digital backplates and change them by adding his own content (using the Screenshotz method, using image montage or using the green screen process). Each backplate can be used multiple times. However, passing on the backplates to third parties or using the images for purposes other than the Screenshotz process, image montages or the green screen process is expressly prohibited!

Screenshotz backplates are produced according the the usual photographic parameters in their intended area of use. The backplates are only available as JPEGs for download for a fee. The image size is uniformly 3840 x 2160 pixels or 2160 x 3840 pixels. All JPEGs are only offered in quality level 8, in the Adobe RGB color space. The buyer is allowed to adapt the purchased backplates according to his wishes and requirements (colors, blurring, brightness, saturation, etc.). The focus of all Screenshotz backplates is generally in the foreground in front of the visible image plane, which is why most backplate motifs are (intentionally!) more or less blurred. All Screenshotz backplates for people photography are designed to display persons cropped below. If you want to show the whole person, this is only possible via image montage. You can find suitable backplates for image montages with entire figures in the online sho www.sparepix.com.

The file names of most backplates have endings from which one can deduce the focusing and/or the technique used and the degree of blurring that has occurred. These endings mean:

_blurred   The entire backplate motif was subtly digitally blurred using a blur filter, usually by 2 pixels.

_Bokeh   The background image was optically softened when it was taken by using longer focal lengths and an open aperture. The focus was in the foreground BEFORE the background depicted and was set for an imaginary cropped person of average size (exceptions are the backplates in gallery K for portraits of children and D for portraits of dogs). A bokeh, i.e. an optically created intentional blur, looks different (and better) than a digital blur that is applied subsequently.

_soft   The background motif was digitally blurred much stronger than in the _blurred version.

ROTATION

In order to display vertical backplates correctly on a LED display, the background motifs must first be rotated 90° into a horizontal position using an image editing program. This may sound strange, but the reason is that a LED display is not a smart phone or a tablet and therefore cannot determine where the top and bottom is in a photo fed in from an external image source. It cannot automatically rotate the image into the correct position. The direction in which a vertical backplate needs to be rotated depends on which way you have rotated your monitor to be vertical. Please rotate a vertical backplate by 90° clockwise or counterclockwise using any image editing program.
